Down's Syndrome Cases

We have chosen a range of people affected by Down's syndrome to illustrate different issues which may arise for each individual and at different stages of life.

Personal Experiences
 
 
Sam - Male, Age 18 months
 
Billy - Male, Age 5
 
  Sam is 18 months old and has Down's syndrome which was diagnosed in pregnancy. He had surgery soon after birth to correct a heart defect and blocked intestines. Sam goes to nursery and uses Makaton to communicate. He lives at home with his Mum, Dad and older sister.   Billy is 5 years old and has Down's syndrome. He was born with a heart defect which was corrected with surgery. He has severe learning difficulties and attends a mainstream school with support. He lives at home with his Mum, Dad and three siblings.  
         
 
Vinura - Male, Age 8
 
Catherine - Female, Age 26
 
  Vinura is 8 years old and he is from Sri Lanka. He lives with his mum, dad and older sister. he enjoys playing with his sister outside and colouring. He was diagnosed with Down's syndrome when he was a year old. He's currently attending a special education school.   Catherine is 26 years old and has Down's syndrome. She attends a local college and works part time in a shop. She enjoys music, writing and swimming and lives at home with her Mum and Dad. She is now doing a mainstream baking course in addition to her other college courses.  
         
 
Carole - Female, Age 50
     
 
Carole is 50 years old and has Down's syndrome. She lives with her sister Hillarie. Carole partakes in a wide range of events and activities that involve cooking, reading and discussing newspapers, historical events and the making of 'super Yorkshire puddings!' She works three days per week at a cooking club and one day a week as a teacher assistant for a primary school in Newcastle.
